Cottage on the Black River

Reconstruction

On the banks of a river in Lanaudière, a small cabin built with makeshift materials has won the heart of a Montreal family. After a few years of occupation, the desire to stay there in winter prompted the couple to invest in the renovation of their oasis of peace. The existing building had to be raised in order to dig the new concrete foundations. The redevelopment of the exterior windows responds to the site's potential for views and sunshine, while the new cladding provides a rustic look appropriate to the forest landscape. A careful selection of materials and sustained site monitoring have enabled self-constructing owners to bring their dreams within reach of their purse.
